A cake for the Kaiser

One of the city’s sweetest seductions is the so-called “Frankfurt Crown Cake”, a butter-cream cake topped with golden brittle and ruby-red cherries, which together are said to perfectly resemble the famous old imperial crown. 

Getting around in the metropolis on the River Main

Via public transport

Once you’ve arrived in Frankfurt, you’ll find the extensive network of the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) at your disposal. This regional public transport system makes it super-easy to get around in Frankfurt and the surrounding Rhine-Main region.

 

By bicycle

As a very bicycle-friendly city, Frankfurt not only disposes over a well-developed network of cycling paths and an appropriate number of bike parking spaces, but also numerous public bicycle rental schemes, which enable you to get to your destination quickly and safely.

Pharmacies

Contrary to many other countries, pharmacies in Germany are visually marked with a red “A” depicted in old-style German script rather than the traditional green cross. These days, however, the “A” is being supplemented more and more by the more international green pharmacy cross.

Shopping

Shops and shopping malls are generally open from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, most supermarkets from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. All shops - except those at the airport - are closed on Sundays and bank holidays.
