Our guiding principles for more sustainability at our networking events and trade fair appearances

We want to set a good example and organise our own events as sustainably as possible. To this end, we have identified seven key areas of action: Location, mobility, catering, gifts and give-aways, trade show booth construction, event programme and communication. We have defined specific measures in each of these areas that we take into account when planning events. These are continuously reviewed and, if necessary, expanded and adapted.

Sustainable

Location

  • We choose mainly venues and event locations that are known to act sustainably. Here, we pay particular attention to catering practices, travel and arrival, the existence of sustainability certificates, barrier freedom and various other social aspects.

Sustainable

Mobility

  • We urge event participants to travel by train and public transport wherever and whenever possible. When flying is the only viable option, we assume the task of CO2 compensation.

  • For inner-city mobility, we ask guests to use the local public transport system, e-vehicles, velotaxis, bicycles, or to walk.

Sustainable

Catering

  • We select foods that are primarily vegan and vegetarian, as well as those that meet the criteria of ecological sustainability (regionality, seasonality etc).

  • In the area of catering and other fields of event organisation, we reduce packaging waste to the greatest possible extent – plastics in particular.

  • We dispense with single-use tableware and disposable cutlery.

  • To avoid food waste, we order needs-based quantities and also provide guests with cardboard takeaway boxes for taking leftovers with them.

  • Aside from cow’s milk, we naturally also offer milk alternatives during our coffee breaks.

  • We use large-sized beverage bottles in order to reduce food waste and rubbish.

Sustainable

Gifts & give-aways

  • We have decided to do away with advertising materials, gifts and give-aways to the greatest possible extent and instead support local charities and non-profit organisations. When exceptions must be made, we make sure to use only sustainably manufactured materials and locally sourced products.

Sustainable

Trade show booth construction

  • Trade show booths developed and built for the Frankfurt Convention Bureau must be constructed in a barrier-free and resource-friendly manner. Construction elements must be recyclable and/or otherwise reusable. If this is not possible, we ensure proper waste disposal.

  • Again, we offset all emissions produced.

Sustainable

Event programme

  • When selecting keynote speakers, we pay attention to their diversity of background.

  • When designing an event programme, we make sure that speakers, performers, artists etc have the shortest possible travel distance to the event location.

  • When planning our events, we aim to put together interactive programmes that provide cross-industry impetus.

  • In order to meet the needs and requirements of all event participants, we request information regarding potential food incompatibilities and physical impairments well in advance.

  • We are very aware of the importance of accessibility and barrier freedom, and we ensure that the needs of persons with physical impairments are met whenever and wherever possible. We also make sure to communicate the contents of programme items with respect to accessibility and barrier freedom.

Sustainable

Communication

  • Our event invitations are sent out in digital form only.

  • We have drastically reduced the use of printed material.
