City Councillor Stephanie Wüst appoints five new representatives

On the evening of 14th November, City Councillor Stephanie Wüst, Head of Frankfurt’s Department of Economic Affairs, commended five new Congress Ambassadors for their efforts in promoting the metropolis on the River Main as Europe’s foremost congress destination.

At the festive award ceremony, the fifteenth overall, the following medical professionals accepted their nominations as official Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors: Professor Christian Grefkes-Hermann (Director of the Neurological Clinic at the Frankfurt University Hospital), Doctor Susanne Schubert-Bast (Senior Physician of the Neuropaediatric Department of the Children’s Clinic at Frankfurt University Hospital and the Epilepsy Centre Frankfurt Rhine-Main), Professor Timo Stöver (Director of the ENT Clinic at the Frankfurt University Hospital), Professor Udo Rolle (Director of the Paediatric Surgery Clinic at Frankfurt University Hospital) and Professor Thomas Kohnen (Chairman of the Ophthalmological Clinic at Frankfurt University Hospital). A lively exchange amongst new and existing congress ambassadors took place at the subsequent dinner function, elegantly catered by BALZER & Co. GmbH.

The City of Frankfurt has been honouring leading professionals from various industries voluntarily promoting national and international congresses and conferences in Frankfurt since 2011.

“I am very happy to be able to honour these five new Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors for their efforts in promoting our city”, stated the Head of Frankfurt’s Economic Affairs Department, Stephanie Wüst. “Our congress and conference industry plays a major role in Frankfurt’s economic success. With these representatives from the business and science sectors, we are able to sustainably strengthen Frankfurt Rhine-Main’s position as a leading international congress and conference destination.”

Thanks to the endeavours of Professor Christian Grefkes-Hermann and Doctor Susanne Schubert-Bast, who in subsequent years are going to hold the position of Congress President, Frankfurt will be hosting the Congress of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging (DGKN) at Messe Frankfurt’s Kap Europa congress centre in both Spring 2024 and 2025. Some 1,200 professionals from Germany, Europe and the rest of the world are expected to participate in both editions of this high-profile event.

As the future president of the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Professor Timo Stöver will be in charge of the society’s 96th annual congress, to be held in Frankfurt in two years’ time. Approximately 2,000 participants are expected to gather at the Frankfurt Fair & Exhibition Centre (Messe Frankfurt) from 28th to 31st May 2025 for three days of intense professional exchange.

Moreover, thanks to the commitment of Professor Udo Rolle and his membership in the European Paediatric Surgeons‘ Association, Frankfurt will also be hosting the 27th European Congress of Paediatric Surgery in the early summer of 2026. The congress, to be held at Kap Europa, is expected to attract some 700 international delegates.

Finally, two new congresses with up to 2,000 international participants will be taking place at Messe Frankfurt thanks to the tireless efforts of Professor Thomas Kohnen. Scheduled to take place from 15th to 18th February 2024, the 28th ESCRS Winter Meeting of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and the 38th Congress of the German Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (DGII) will together further enhance Frankfurt’s reputation as a first-class congress destination.

With the nomination of these five medical professionals, a total of 35 specialists now make up the exclusive circle of Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors.
