On Thursday evening, the 16th official round of appointments of Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors took place in the archives of Messe Frankfurt. During the festive event, which took place parallel to the Frankfurt Book Fair, City Councillor Stephanie Wüst, Head of Department for Economic Affairs, Law and City Marketingof the City of Frankfurt, commended two new ambassadors for their efforts in promoting the congress and conference destination of Frankfurt.
Amidst the notable setting of Messe Frankfurt’s most prized treasures, Professor Felix Rosenow, specialist in neurology and director of the Epilepsy Centre at Frankfurt University Hospital, and Torsten Burmester, chairman of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), were officially appointed as Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors.
Professor Rosenow had recently welcomed some 100 participants from across the globe to the 16th International Epilepsy Course and Colloquium, held on the grounds of Frankfurt University Hospital from 17th to 20th September 2024. Moreover, he had in the more recent past also accompanied numerous colloquia and similar events on the subject of epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology, including, amongst others, the 65th Congress of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging (DGKN), an association of which he is a board member.
Torsten Burmester, meanwhile, was instrumental in convincing the German Olympic Sports Federation to hold their general meeting at the Kap Europa congress centre of Messe Frankfurt in both 2019 and 2023. The same venue will be hosting the meeting in December 2025, with some 450 members being expected to attend.
“The commitment of our congress ambassadors continues to play a significant role in Frankfurt’s ongoing success as a leading international congress and conference destination”, noted City Councillor Wüst. She added: “In their function as multipliers from the fields of business and science, these two gentlemen have made decisive contributions in sustainably bolstering the reputation of both Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region, while at the same time highlighting important themes and promoting the city’s congress and conference business in general.”
“Frankfurt convinces as a highly suitable host city for congresses and conferences thanks to its convenient geographical location, its excellent accessibility and its dynamic infrastructure,” added Mr Thomas Feda, managing director of the Frankfurt Tourist+Congress Board. “The tireless efforts of our ambassadors have over the years made our city an increasingly attractive congress and conference destination. They have provided great assistance in the organisation of national and international events by applying their experience and expertise while also availing themselves of the contacts from their respective business networks.”
The City of Frankfurt has been appointing and acknowledging senior executives of various industries to promote Frankfurt as an international congress and conference location since 2011.
With these two latest additions, the current number of honorary Frankfurt Congress Ambassadors from the fields of business and science has grown to 34 in total.
